99

Dear Carla,

PARTY LIKE IT’S 1999!

You may get to get all the cool numbers like 50 and 75 and 10, but I get number 99! And EVERYONE knows that 99 is the number with the best parties.

I had my art exam and spent 6 hours on my feet. That kind of hurts after three hours, so after three more you can imagine how I felt.

I’d post a picture of what I did, but

  • a) It’s not finished
  • b) It transfers crappily, because the paint is wet (and will be for another week so I can’t finish it till then) and
  • c) I only have a picture on my phone.
Bleurgh.
I have French and Biology and Physics tomorrow. I should probably revising for them but YOU made me write this letter.
Just kidding, I’m actually doing French as I write right now, and I have two hours revision period before my Physics and Biology exam tomorrow – so I’m not in a sweat about that.
I hate exams though. I really do. I really wish someone would come up with some other way of testing us.
Now I’m going to write something in French (without correct accentation because I cant be arsed):
Il y a une grande difference entre la vie scholaire en angleterre et en france. D’ abord les matieres qu’on apprend sont un peu differentes. On france on n’etudie pas la religion en classe et la religion est interdit. La religion est tout a fait separe d’ecle.
Can I get a woop woop? Probably not, because that was the first paragraph of my oral.
Eh, bien – c’est trop tard pendant le soir, et je dois finir ma lettre. Je suis desolée mais, j’ai des examens trés important demain et je dois aller!
A bientot,
Ton ami qui n’aime pas le francais beaucoup,
Ben.
P.S That’s an AWESOME picture! dA, much?
P.P.S I can’t be bovvvered to update the story page, you do it Miss I end school tomorrow
P.P.P.S They cantered for miles and miles, occasionally stopping to refuel. It was not until four days later that Lourde finally brought up the topic of Carla’s ability. They had stopped in what had once been a city, but was now mostly abandoned. Lourde explained that the area had been ravaged by war many years ago and powerful benders had changed the environment meaning no people could inhabit the houses any more. He stood up, and walked off into the middle of the street – just out of earshot of Ben. Lourde beckoned for Carla to follow, and she eagerly stood up. Ben felt a pang of jealousy run through him again and he took a rather over-zealous bite of a rabbit like creature that Lourde had cooked for them. He glared at Carla as she skipped over to see Lourde.
“Little secret club… exclusive to benders…” Ben grumbled.
The boy, William, giggled next to him.
“You’re jealous,” he smiled.
Ben dropped the rabbit. It was the first time Will had spoke since they had picked him up five days ago.
“What?” Ben asked, shocked.
“You’re jealous of her!” Will giggled again.
“I thought you couldn’t… speak,” Ben stuttered.
“Oh, I can,” Will beamed, “I just don’t want to. I like to sit and watch. I learn a lot that way. And so far, I’ve learnt that you’re jealous of her.”
“Yeah…” Ben said, cynically, “that’s me… jealous…”
“Well you are,” Will frowned. “You’ve gone pink. And you keep trying to prove to Lourde that you have powers too.”
“Oh shut up,” Ben snapped. “What do you know… you’re like four and a half.”
“Eight,” Will replied, “actually.”
“Eight-shmeight,” Ben retorted, childishly. “When you’ve grown up, then you can talk to the adults.”
Will stood up and walked off, to grumble in a corner – leaving Ben feeling very pleased.
Lourde barked another order.
“This time,” he smiled, “close your eyes and think of the last time you felt in immediate danger.”
Carla did so, remembering how the swarm of angry wasps had surrounded them.
“No…” Carla said, defeatedly.
“I don’t understand it…” Lourde sighed. “This is meant to be an area of strong bendability.”
“What?” Carla asked.
“Areas that have been changed or morphed strongly, generally tend to be more malleable than others. I guess it was a one time thing…”
“No!” Carla protested.
“Yeah,” Lourde sighed again. “You probably leeched off me.”
“NO!” Carla said, angry that she had been denied an ability.
“I thought it was highly uncommon for someone from another realm to-”
“NO!” This time, Carla screamed it – flaring with anger for some reason. She felt the energy pulse at her fingertips and sent a burst of hot water at Lourde. He jumped back, moving in time to only be singed a little.
“Well,” Lourde smiled, “I guess we know your trigger now. Just how to maintain it…”
He rubbed his singed flesh and sat down, to think.

For the first time I read all parts of your “shared story” and I gotta admit that it’s really good writing, well at least as far as I can judge as a foreign reader.
I like the characters and the whole plot, some things even remind me of Lost. (Pretty good for the long hiatus, hah)
